First-Principle Leadership Quotes

Happy Friday,

Leadership skills are valuable life skills, regardless of your title. Knowing what leadership is, what good leadership looks like, and how to go about it is the vital foundation most people, even those with titles, never get. Crazy. It's tough to build skills on a weak foundation.

I read several hundred leadership quotes and selected ten that get to the essence of leadership. The implications of each are worth contemplating for a few seconds.

2.     “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” —John C. Maxwell

3.     “A boss has the title. The leader has the people.”—Simon Sinek

4.     “You manage things; you lead people.” —Grace Murray Hopper

5.     “The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.” —Ralph Nader

6.     “If you spend more than 25% of your time focused on what happened last week, you’re an administrator, not a leader. Business is a road race, and the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason.” - Anonymous

7.     “The fastest way to change team culture is to change the leadership.” —Josh Axe

8.     “Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.” —General George Patton

9.     “They may forget what you said — but they will never forget how you made them feel." —Carl W. Buehner. (This is probably the most important, least internalized leadership quote of them all)

Your employer may only expect you to be a good manager, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be an excellent leader. Do it for you.
